Valentine's Debut with Madeleine Mayi

Saturdaze: Please introduce yourself!

Madeleine: Hi! I am Madeleine Mayi, I’m 23, and use she/her. I make music and live in LA! fun fact- I was born on the bathroom floor. lol.

Saturdaze: Tell us about your journey into music and writing.

Madeleine: I started writing not too long ago actually. I think it’s been 3 or 4 years now. I have been singing since I was like 5 though, and studied voice in college. I’m not the kid who grew up wanting to be a pop star, I just wanted to be really do something with my life that was creative and would make a difference. I am so happy I’ve found that in what I do. Little me would be proud. :)

Saturdaze: What inspired you to choose music as a career?

Madeleine: To be honest, it was the thing that made the most sense for me. I have always loved singing and been very passionate about pushing my creativity as far as it can go. It’s not a very romantic story really. I was in a music business class and my teacher was describing the type of person that can thrive and succeed as an artist (obviously this is very subjective) but something in that explanation got to me and I realized it was what I was supposed to do in life.

Saturdaze: What do you like to do aside from music? What are your hobbies and interests?

Madeleine: Well I love all forms of art, so sometimes I make collages and I love discovering new stuff that I love. I used to go to a ton of art galleries and exhibits. Other than art the my priority is my friends and my fam.. so most of the time I have free I’m spending with them in some way. Hiking, yoga, going to the beach (I’m a water baby) going to shows, getting coffee etc.

Saturdaze: Do you have any upcoming projects or songs you’d like to tell us about?

Madeleine: Yes! My debut album “214” is coming out on Valentine’s Day! I’ve been working on it for a while and I’m so proud of it, so check it out! Send it to your crush!

Saturdaze: Wow! That’s so exciting, congratulations. What inspired this album and why did you decide to release it on Valentine’s Day?

Madeleine: Thank you so much. I am stoked. The meaning of the record is very tied into memories I have on Valentine’s Day. The album is about grief, and it was inspired by some personal losses that changed the way I think of the holiday.

Saturdaze: Are there any artists that you look to for inspiration when writing songs? Who is your favorite artist?

Madeleine: Yeah! One of my biggest songwriting influences is and always has been Bill Withers. He says everything he needs to say in a simple but beautiful way. My favorite artist has got to be Prince. I am forever inspired by who he was as a musician and also as a person. Rest in peace to both of them.

Saturdaze: Where do you see your music career going in the next year? What is one goal you have in mind?

Madeleine: I have more coming! My goal this year is to put out a short film or special music video. And maybe play a show depending on how things go.

Saturdaze: Well, that's all we have for today! Thank you so much Madeleine, it was great talking with you <3.

Madeleine: Thank you guys so much for having me!!
